Im no Carrie Bradshaw. I wouldve left "Mr. Big" and married Aiden in a heartbeat. But thats besides the point. (Sex and The City reference, for those who dont get it)My name is Alexandria Wilson, but you can call me Alex. As of now, Im a new graduate student at the Savannah College of Art and Design working on a Master of Arts degree in Luxury and Fashion Management / Fashion Marketing. I grew up in a small town in northern Mississippi, where the closest Louis Vuitton store is about 200 miles away and the grocery stores have three month old issues of Elle on the shelves as if they had just been released. So how and when did a small town girl like me become so obsessed with fashion? Ive always been creative. I started sketching random things at age five or six and never stopped. I became part of the Artistically Gifted Students program in grade school and stayed there until I graduated high school. Most of the pieces I produced were fashion-inspired, although there was very little "style inspiration" around me. *cue visual of hideous school uniforms* I denied myself as an artist for years, up until undergrad when I finally listened to my peers who constantly told me that I was one of the most creative people they knew. One day, I bought my first DSLR and started building a photography portfolio. I refined my skills and began to brand myself doing freelance as "Alexandria Wilson Photography." Now Im focusing on pursuing fashion photography and multimedia, utilizing my experience gained while getting my Bachelors degree in Broadcast Communication from Mississippi State University. Nowadays, I get inspiration from great photographers like Mario Testino, watching old episodes of Americas Next Top Model (the photo shoots), and great fashion editors like Grace Coddington. My personal style is all over the place, but I identify most with minimalism (although I love the ornate collections of Balmain and Elie Saab). With all of this being said and many details Ive left out, becoming the person I am has been quite the journey. Art and Fashion are huge parts of my life. Ive come to realize that while I do have career goals, I dont quite have a dream job. There are so many things that Im good at and Im finally comfortable realizing that theres nothing wrong with owning it. Being the passionate person I am, I plan on pursuing every single thing that Im passionate about. Truthfully, Id love to be a fashion editor, red carpet reporter, fashion photographer, stylist... the list goes on. Think of this website as a portal, a gateway between me and you. I hope to inspire you by sharing the things that inspire me. This creative journey Im on will be an interesting one and I promise to bring you along for the ride. Stay creative. Keep learning. Never stop the pursuit. And most importantly, dress for the part. XOXO.-A.W.
